On the one hand, this is a requirement of the European Union, in accordance with the Ukraine-EU Agreement. On the other hand, given the military actions in the country and the absolute dependence of drinking water supply on the quality of surface water, this is becoming a matter of health and life for the population. The large amount of data on the state of all types of water justifies the creation of algorithms for processing, verifying the reliability and forecasting the development of the environmental situation. Particular attention should be paid to cases of environmental pollution with heavy metals such as mercury and lead, which are found in compounds used to detonate explosives, as well as TNT, octagen, sulphur, hexogen and tetryl, which pose a particular threat to human health.
The biocenoses of reservoirs and rivers consist of phytoplankton, zooplankton, phytobenthos, zoobenthos, higher aquatic vegetation, fish, and microorganisms. The diversity of organisms living in a water body can be used to determine its condition and degree of pollution. Methods for assessing the state of the natural environment based on the different sensitivities of living organisms to water quality are called bioindication. The use of certain groups of organisms in river biocenoses is determined by the purpose and objectives of the research.
To determine the degree of eutrophication (pollution by biogenic substances) of a river, quantitative indicators of the development of individual algae species are usually used. Changes in water quality in a reservoir are accompanied by changes in algae communities. Phytoplankton, like zooplankton, is used to assess water quality in reservoirs and rivers located upstream of the sampling site. Although zooplankton is less indicative of water quality than phytoplankton, it can nevertheless be used as a bioindicator of water quality.
Zoobenthos is a reliable indicator of the characteristics of bottom sediment pollution. Macrozoobenthos is the basis of many water bioindication systems, especially in reservoirs. Molluscs constitute the largest biomass of benthos, but it should be noted that not all species can be used for bioindication. Reliable indicators of water quality are lunged molluscs, snails and river balls. The larvae of some insects can also be used to assess water quality. In particular, the presence of larvae of caddisflies from the suborder Trichoptera and larvae of mayflies with gills not covered by caps in the benthos is the most reliable indicator of particularly clean areas in rivers.
When preparing technological solutions, the Smart Solution TM team uses modern methods for assessing the ecological and sanitary condition of water bodies (rivers, lakes, reservoirs, tanks). Water and bottom sediment samples are collected. Laboratory physical, chemical and microbiological analysis of the collected samples is carried out. Based on the research, decisions are made on the application of hydrobiological and hydroengineering technologies.
The Smart Solution TM team has design and practical experience in restoring the quality of surface waters.
